Lunch & a Drive

Let's try to find the "pumpkin" restaurant in Olinda. . .

Other than the sign, it was just another of the painted buildings on a long hillside street :). (Note all the electric wires again.)

Oficina do Sabor

The restaurant name translates into "taste workshop."  It was a valuable asset to have our son as our tour guide, especially having "gone before" in order to have an itinerary for us.  I had seen several of his restaurant photos through the years of how Brazilians serve shrimp or chicken in a cheese sauce, in an entire pumpkin (about 8" diameter for 2 . . . not our gigantic ones for carving, ALTHO!!! -- thinking about it, if you took out all the racks in the oven & baked the pumpkin to al dente, & were making the dish to "feed a crowd," it would be quite spectacular!)  I googled "brazilian shrimp in cheese sauce in a pumpkin" & there are many recipes to learn about the process.

If it wasn't for the hanging sign, you'd never know from the street front that this breezy open-air restaurant is here!

With appreciation to the smiling staff, we head off on to the streets to get a view of the town.

The church above was not open, but it was neat to swing around the wall to see the facade.  Our destination was the following:  Catholic Basilica and Monastery of St. Benedict, Olinda - Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil (below)

Carved so many layers deep ~ One wonders, "How deep is your faith?" And, "Is it based on the Bible & by & with Jesus, as God tells us in His autobiography, so you'll go to Heaven?"

Visiting Brazil (Brasil)

Opening up the world to different cultures, but remembering all of us were created by God.

Information

This is the 4th in a series of connected "Visiting Brazil" websites using Webnode's "free" website offer (which has limited space which photos, vs. text, use up very rapidly). Having had a limited knowledge of life in Brazil (only knowing of the Amazon, jungles, & the Jesus statue), I made this website series to share our March/April 2023, month-long trip, for your enjoyment, enlightenment, and educational benefit to expand our South American cultural awareness.
